A Fibery Weekend

A few weeks back I saw an ad for 'The Fiber Event' while perusing Ravelry.

Oh look!  It's only an hour from my Brother & Sister-in-Law in Indianapolis.  I'll bet they'd LOVE to have me stay with them (for FIVE days, haha!)

Oh look!  Briar Rose Fibers !!   one of my favorite vendors will be there!

Hmm...there is a 'Spinning Luxury Fibers' workshop taught by Kate Larson.  And it's not full or expensive!

Oh Look!  The Crazy Sheep Lady (Sara) lives right on my travel route.  And there is Lamb Camp!!!

That's it, I'm SO going!

And I did :)  I called my brother & SIL and they were too happy to have me stay with them.  So I signed up for the workshop, sent an email to Sara, strapped my spinning wheel into the back seat of Vera and headed North.

The 8 hour drive was uneventful and I only ran into rain about 2 hours south of Indy.  My workshop was 9am Saturday morning so SIL and I went out to Putnam Fairgrounds on Friday to check out which building I needed to find and then to go look at all the Pretties.  I used great restraint and did not purchase anything :D  Went to dinner with Bro/SIL at this great restaurant called Mimi Blue's spectacular meatballs!

Bright and early Saturday I headed back for the workshop.  Kate Larson is a delight and extremely knowledgeable.  I am a self taught spinner and pretty much use the same spinning technique for every fiber I spin. Which works most of the time because I tend to buy the same types of fibers but it's disastrous when I try something new, like yak.
From the workshop description;

Cashmere, camel, silk, and yak—the range of prepared luxury fibers we modern spinners have at our fingertips would astound our textile predecessors. Today, we often find these fibers in blends—merino and cashmere, silk and yak, the enticing list goes on and on. These blends often combine fibers with very different characteristics. How we spin silk is typically different from how we might spin yak—how should we spin a blend of the two? This workshop will introduce you to a variety of luxury blends and methods to spin these special fibers to get the yarns you want.

And boy did it. I learned so much in 3 hours and I can't wait to dive into my Spinning Stash!

Oh um, remember when I said I didn't buy anything Friday? Yea well, this happened Saturday.

MORE Spinning Fiber!!!

This beautiful combo from Hue Loco Yarn for the Downhome shawl.

Enough Briar Rose Sonoma yarn for a pullover sweater

 and two new knitting t-shirts.

I'm hopeless.

Saturday night my Sister from Chicago and my Niece (who graduates from Butler with a DOUBLE MAJOR this Spring!) met me, Bro & SIL for dinner at Burger Study in Indy.  We sat after dinner and talked for a couple hours.  I'm sure the waiter appreciated that :0

I left on Monday and stopped in Kentucky to visit Sara's farm and another farm for Lamb Camp.

to be continued........
